Miriam’s Talk

Living Together: Searching for Community in a Fractured World

With a spiralling cost of living crisis, a property market which has far outrun earnings and 76% of Brits believing our sense of community spirit has disappeared, it would seem that for many people, our models for housing aren’t working.

Is there another way?

  • Over the last year Mim has explored how alternative approaches to housing could help us live in more connected, affordable, fairer and greener ways.
  • She visited 14 communities across the UK and Europe that diverge from nuclear family models of living, from urban co-living developments to Britain’s last remaining naturist community, from a 1970s self-sufficient hippy commune to the Bruderhof religious community in Sussex who share roots with the Amish.
  • Mim will be coming to the Bright Ideas Gathering to tell us what she discovered. This will be the first time she’s spoken publicly about the project so we’re very excited to be hosting her talk.
